Dark Days for the Democrats
August 12th 2008 20:50
As both parties approach the conventions at the end of the month, tensions seem to be escalating rapidly around the democrats. One piece of information that is particularly damaging is the insider memos and emails that Clinton aides have released depicting their problems, not only with Obama, but also with the Clinton campaign itself.
The Atlantic Monthly got a hold of these documents when insiders from Clinton's primary campaign released them to the magazine. The article based on these documents is already on Atlantic's website and is set to appear in the magazine for the September edition. These documents convey a primary campaign wrought with insider fighting, and turmoil; and according to the article, Clinton did little to manage disagreements, instead letting them fester.
One of the biggest bomb shells contained within the emails that Atlantic received was a strategy outlined by Clinton's top advisor Mark Penn to turn Obama's diverse childhood against him and label him as un-American. As Jonathan Martin of Politico points out "Her top adviser suggesting that angle is striking. These are the kinds of things you see in e-mails that you see circulating about Obama in this sort of subterranean smear campaign against him. You never see these things voiced by the candidates."
How were these sensitive documents released to a publication you ask? Primarily because many of Clinton's staffers were frustrated and felt the reason she lost was her inability to delegate authority and the general disorganization of the campaign.
If all this wasn’t enough, here’s another rumor for you. I’m sure some of you have heard of the allegations that Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. but they’ve never been backed up with solid evidence. But according to some of my political contacts in Chicago there’s a rumor that Drudge, from the Drudge Report, has a copy of Obama’s Kenyan birth certificate and he’s waiting to release it until after the convention. Sure, this is probably just bull crap, but if it is true, than the Dems are doomed; especially if Clinton is the one to take over.
The democrats need to pull together if they want to stand a chance at beating McCain in November. Obama needs to sit down with the Clintons and ensure that they will behave themselves during the convention and that they will both keep a low profile. Finally, the dems have to pray to God that Obama was legitimately born in Hawaii, and not in Kenya.
