Old Man McCain Takes Things Slow
September 25th 2008 19:32
Yesterday John McCain suspended his campaign in order to travel to Washington and deal with the economic crisis. He feels its imperative that he is in Washington helping to pass the bailout bill that will cost tax payers 700 billion. Its interesting that McCain is so motivated right now to vote in the senate, given that he hasn't voted since April due to his campaigning.
Let's be honest with ourselves, this suspension was nothing but a political ploy. It not only brought attention to McCain, but also postponed the debate. However, Obama brought up a very good point. He noted in a statement yesterday that if one wishes to be President, then that person better know how to multi-task.
A president doesn't get to just call a time out and work on one problem. A president MUST be able to deal with multiple issues of varying importance at any time. Moreover, I feel that while immersed in an economic crisis such as this one, there couldn't be a better time to have a debate. The people need to know where the candidates stand on the issues.
Obama has stated that he will not only be in Washington to deal with the economy, but will also be present at the debate Friday night. I don't think I'm the only one here who feels that it’s a little silly that McCain can't take a few hours out of his schedule to go onto the air and debate his democratic opponent.
If McCain doesn't show up to the debate tomorrow night I feel that a lot of people will be disappointed and even alienated. It almost feels like McCain is either unprepared or anxious to face Obama tomorrow. The political ploy that McCain pulled yesterday seemed like a clever move, however, if he doesn't show up to the debate tomorrow it’s going to seriously backfire on him.
