Palin Already Immersed in Scandal
August 29th 2008 19:08
After I finished singing her praises I poked around a bit more about Governor Sarah Palin (only because I know hardly anything about her) and found out she's currently at the center of a scandal that is tarnishing her label of ethics reformer.
Apparently, Palin recently fired Alaska's public safety commissioner Walt Monegan (for unknown reasons) conveniently after the commissioner refused to fire Palin's ex-brother in law, Mike Wooten, who is an Alaskan state trooper. Palin's sister had gone through a messy divorce with her ex-husband and the family was not on good terms with Wooten.
Palin denies having anything to do with the entire situation, and denies having ordered the dozens of calls made by her aides and her husband to the Commissioner in the interest of having Wooten fired. Monegan says he does not know why he was fired, and will only say that he was under pressure from Palin's administration and Palin's husband to get rid of Wooten.
Although Palin adamantly denies having anything to do with the scandal and openly welcomes an investigation, it seems a bit far fetched to believe that she had no knowledge that her husband and her administration were making numerous calls to commissioner Monegan.
Granted, this is no sex or embezzlement scandal, but it could put a damper McCain's decision to choose her. With Palin's inexperience already working against her the last thing she needs is a scandal such as this one which goes against the anti-corruption, "new" politics message that she hopes to bring to McCain's campaign. I suppose McCain is hoping this will fly under the radar, since he chose her only a week and a half after the scandal broke. Only time will tell how that decision turns out for him.

Furthermore, Obama may not have executive experience, but he does have experience on the national stage. He's forged relationships with not only most of Congress but with the White House and many of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Most of Washington barely knows this woman. Plus, if McCain drops dead (god forbid) do we really want a forty four year old mother of five to be running the country?
