Palin the Pig
September 10th 2008 15:35
So, how about this lipstick on a pig remark? Its "issues" like these that make so many Americans and people around the world stay away from politics. This is the spin strategy of the GOP to twist words and insert their own meaning. This is the stupid crap that can actually turn momentum in an election. The fact that something like this can actually be news for a day or two is severely depressing.
For those of you who don't know, Obama, when attacking McCain's policies and their similarities to Bush's, said, "You can put lipstick on a pig. Its still a pig...You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it’s still going to stink." How has a common metaphor suddenly become sexist?
That's the worst part about this whole thing; the Republicans are accusing Obama of being sexist. Never mind that John McCain has used this same phrase to describe Hillary Clinton's healthcare plan during the primaries, he wasn't being sexist. I just want to repeat that... John McCain used this same phrase in reference to Hillary Clinton, where is the controversy surrounding that?
It’s ironic that the GOP is accusing Obama of being sexist, when in reality it’s sexist to even make this an issue. To say that a very common metaphor is in reference to Palin because she's a woman and wears lipstick, guess what? That’s sexist!
When we become focused on crap like this we can no longer focus on the issues which really matter (Which is what McCain wants). The funny thing is that the metaphor actually applies to this situation. Anyone with even a little bit of sense knows that this "issue," much like McCain's promise of change, is just a big ugly pig smeared in a ridiculous amount of lipstick.
